FAQs

WHAT IS A BIRTH DOULA?

A doula is someone who accompanies the birthing person in labor, provides emotional and physical support, suggests comfort measures and techniques for pain management, provides support for the partner and helps clients access resources and information.

Will you attend an at-home birth?

Yes, but I will not attend an unassisted at-home birth.

Will you work with me if i want to get an epidural?

Yes. It’s a simple as that. I will advocate for what you want and what your birth vision is. I will work with you to make a birth plan to share with the clinical staff, and be there to help make that plan a reality.

Why ‘white lotus’?

The white lotus is a symbol of fertility, prosperity and beauty. It is the flower of peace, truth and enlightenment.

What does a doula “not” do?

A doula does not perform clinical or medical tasks. A doula does not impose their views on their client - they advocate for what their client wants. A doula does not make decisions for the client - a doula helps the client make informed decisions that serve them and their birth vision.

What if you are unavailable when i go into labor?

I have a working relationship with other doulas in the area who will be available in case of emergency. You will have access to a virtual meeting with these doulas prior to birth if you wish to do so.

are you certified?

I have completed a DONA International certified birth doula training and am working towards becoming a fully certified birth doula. I also plan to complete a postpartum doula certification and a prenatal yoga teacher training.
